Khenyeza Praises The Hunger Of Arrows

Golden Arrows coach Mabhuti Khenyeza praised his players for their clinical finishing after winning their first two matches of the season with clean sheets.

Arrows secured their second victory of the campaign by defeating Marumo Gallants 2-0 at Mpumalanga Stadium on Saturday in the Betway Premiership. This followed their impressive 2-0 win over Stellenbosch FC earlier in the week.

Maintaining their top position with six points, Arrows faced a determined Gallants side that dominated possession but struggled to create clear-cut chances. This marked a historic occasion for Arrows, as it was the first time they have won two opening league matches on the bounce with a clean sheet in their 700th league game in PSL history.

“This is good for the players, they have been working very hard,” said Khenyeza after the game.

“They have been waiting to play for so many weeks and this belong to them. There is a team spirit which is helping them, the fighting spirit, they fight, you can see.

“Everyone out of position wants to defend, we win the ball we are prepared to attack. The team like Gallants is not easy to play against, they keep the ball a bit long, they can create scoring opportunities, they have experienced players.

“We have to give credit to the boys and enjoy the moment.”

Known for controlling the tempo of the game under coach Dan Malesela, Gallants were outplayed by Arrows’ clinical finishing. Knox Mutizwa scored his 61st PSL goal for Arrows, a remarkable achievement considering he joined the club in the second half of the 2016/17 season. Nduduzo Sibiya added a second goal with a header from a free kick.

Although Arrows had more chances, Khenyeza felt they could have extended their lead. “I think we had a lot of opportunities after that,” he said. “Their goalkeeper (Daniel Akpeyi) made some good saves, and we missed some chances, especially in the second half.”
