Chiefs Trounce Usuthu, Basadien Nets A Screamer In Wednesday’s PSL Matches
It was a night of joy for Stellenbosch as they hammered Cape Town City 3-0 at Athlone Stadium in other Betway Premiership matches on Wednesday.
Fawaaz Basadien scored one of the goals of the season when Stellenbosch maintained their dominance over City in the Cape Derby at Athlone Stadium.
City had a corner and it was half-booted away by Stellies defender Ismail Toure and City goalie Darren Keet was caught off his line and the ball went into the net, much to the embarrassment of the former Bafana Bafana international goalkeeper.
That goal came after Andre de Jong drilled home an unstoppable strike to give Stellies the lead in the first half, before Basadien’s night to remember.
Sanele Barns also scored his first goal for Stellenbosch and third on the night. As Keet made a huge blunder to be caught on his heels, he was able to save a penalty for City when he denied Ashley Cupido’s first goal for Stellenbosch.
In Durban at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Kaizer Chiefs completely overran AmaZulu in the first half scoring two goals in quick succession to completely take the game away from the home side.
Goals were netted by Ranga Chivaviro, Gaston Sirino in the first half in quick succession. Angolan defender Inacio Miguel netted the third, also coming in the first half, leaving Usuthu sensing the crushing damage, to the already under pressure coach Pablo Franco Martin.
As Chiefs were revving in the first half, AmaZulu pulled one back when Etiosa Ighodaro slipped the ball past Fiacre Ntwari two minutes the second had started.
Two minutes later, Usuthu almost made it 3-2 when Tshepang Moremi had shot from close range come off the cross bar as Chiefs were ran rugged at that moment.
Ighodaro, who was impressive for AmaZulu up top as he continued harassed Chiefs’ defence, was unlucky to see his header come off the upright.
There was supposed to be a day of delight for the bottom side of newbies Magesi FC when they thought that they ended the unbeaten of Golden Arrows by winning 1-0 at Mpumalanga Stadium, but the game has been abandoned. Wonderboy Makhubu scored for Clinton Larsen’s Magesi side in the second half, but the match will have to be played on the other day and the PSL will confirm when it will resume. Arrows said in a statement after the game: “In accordance with PSL regulations, our match against Magesi FC will have to be concluded within 48 hours. This means we will return to Mpumalanga Stadium tomorrow to resume play and complete the remaining minutes of play in order to have a conclusion to the fixture.”
Terrence Dzvukamanja scored the game’s only goal as SuperSport United defeated TS Galaxy at Tuks Stadium, with Gavin Hunt’s men winning for the first time this season. Things are not looking good for Galaxy’s coach Sead Ramovic as this was their second loss this season.
The game between Sekhukhune United and Chippa United was the only that spoilt the day as it ended to 1-1 draw at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Chippa’s Bienvenu Eva Nga’s goal in the first half was cancelled out by Thabang Monare in Limpopo.
