A Night Of Joy For Chiefs As They Trounce AmaZulu

Kaizer Chiefs displayed a delightful performance as they trounce AmaZulu 3-1 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday night.

A notable change on both club’s team sheets was Veli Mothwa for AmaZulu being dropped to the bench following a rough start to the season that saw him make two goalkeeping mistakes both on national duty and on the club’s opener vs Polokwane City, while Njabulo Blom made his first start for Chiefs since returning from MLS’s St. Louis City on loan.

The game started in a hysteric mood in a sold-out Moses Mabhida Stadium, with Chiefs enjoying most of the ball, coupled with quick attacks but only yielding corner kicks at most, and never an attempt on target.

However, the misfortunes were changed shortly with Ranga Chivaviro finding the back of the net through a rebound shot from his effort in the 12th minute, providing the game with the perfect lift-me-up it needs

Chiefs returned in quick succession with Gaston Serino’s beautiful curler to the top corner, doubling Amakhosi’s advantage early in the first half.

To AmaZulu’s demise, it wasn’t the last time Olwethu Mzimela would pay a humbling visit to his net. Miguel Inacio rose above everyone in the AmaZulu box to meet a corner kick from Sirino, which he directed in the top corner, extending their lead to three.

AmaZulu returned with renewed purpose in the second half, as Etiosa Ighodaro pulled one back in the 47th minute after a defensive mishap saw him face eye-to-eye with Fiacre Ntwari, with nerves of steel the striker calmly slotted the ball between the keeper’s legs.

Reacting to the goal, Chiefs made a double substitution, introducing Mfundo Vilakazi and Edson Castillo for Blom and Wandile Duba.

Usuthu threatened to claw back into the game in the 80thminute through Ighodaro’s free header leaving Ntwari rooted to the ground, but the post came to his rescue.

This was followed by a wave of attacks from AmaZulu looking to find parity, but each attempt was canceled by Chiefs’ dogged defence, finishing the game at 3-1.
