Miguel Bullish Ahead Of Sundowns Clash
Kaizer Chiefs defender Inácio Miguel says people misunderstand the concept of pressure as the Soweto giants prepare to face Mamelodi Sundowns in a crucial Betway Premiership match at FNB Stadium on Saturday (15:00).
He explained that the game doesn’t personally pressure him, and as a team, they should approach it with enjoyment. Miguel believes that true pressure comes from the responsibility of providing for one’s family, such as the head of a household.
Miguel, who joined Chiefs during the offseason, has featured in both league matches for the Soweto giants and scored in their 3-1 victory over AmaZulu at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday.
He appears to be settling in well in defense alongside another new signing, Rushwin Dortley, under the guidance of new coach Nasreddine Nabi.
“To be honest, many people talk about pressure and these games. But I believe true pressure is when you have to leave home early to work and provide for your family, facing uncertainty and hardship,” said Miguel.
“As football players, we can’t say we’re under pressure. This is a pleasure, not pressure. My message to the boys is to enjoy the moment because a football career is short. Don’t think about pressure. The real pressure is the father who goes out in the morning to fight for his family. We just have to enjoy the moment.”
Miguel has experience facing Sundowns, having played against them in the African Football League quarterfinal last season with his former club, Petro de Luanda. The two teams have started the season well, collecting six points each in two matches.
Miguel is confident that Chiefs can stop Sundowns’ attacking prowess.
“I have massive respect for Sundowns, first of all,” said Miguel.
“They have talented squad, but last year I had a bad moment with them at home. We started the game 0-0 and they got the red card (when Mothobi Mvala was sent off), they still kept the good shape, they were very connected because they have played together for so many years.
“But we are Kaizer Chiefs, we have something to say also. We are in the middle of the process, we are not thinking about the future, but the present. So, we have to be focused on what we can do on Saturday’s game and basically, we have to focus on ourselves.”
