City Announces New Signings Ahead Of Betway Premiership Season
Newly promoted Durban City has confirmed a series of new signings on their social media page, including several players previously reported by Sportswire.
The club has announced the acquisition of Brooklyn Poggenpoel, who will reunite with City coach Gavin Hunt. Poggenpoel previously played for SuperSport United before the club’s sale to form Siwelele FC.
Veteran goalkeeper Darren Keet, recently released by relegated side Cape Town City at the end of last season, has also joined Durban City.
Additionally, City has signed Trevor Mokwena from Motsepe Foundation Championship side Upington City, and Ghanaian international goalkeeper Fredrick Asare.
These signings are part of Durban City’s preparations for their upcoming season in the Betway Premiership top flight, having earned promotion by winning the Motsepe Foundation Championship last season. Following their promotion, they appointed Gavin Hunt, who had been unattached since his sacking from SuperSport United in March.
Hunt and the new players will be involved in the KZN Premier’s Cup this coming weekend in Richards Bay. Durban City is set to face Milford FC in a playoff match at Umhlathuze Stadium on Saturday at 14:00. The winner of that game will advance to the semi-finals on Sunday, where they will play the winner of the playoff between Golden Arrows and AmaZulu, which also takes place on Saturday.
