Clinical Stormers Crush Glasgow To Claim URC Summit In Cape Town Masterclass

The DHL Stormers surged into an early lead in the opening quarter, laying the foundation for a commanding 48–12 victory over Glasgow Warriors in their United Rugby Championship clash in Cape Town.

Producing some of their most dynamic rugby of the season, the Stormers climbed to the top of the URC table with a statement bonus-point win over a strong Glasgow side. Tries came from Ntuthuko Mchunu (2), Evan Roos, Ruhan Nel, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, and Keke Morabe.

The Stormers opened the scoring in the fifth minute through the boot of Feinberg-Mngomezulu after Glasgow were penalised for offside at the ruck.

The home side extended their lead in the ninth minute when a quick tap allowed Neethling Fouché to produce a slick pass, sending Ntuthuko Mchunu over for the opening try. Feinberg-Mngomezulu added the conversion to make it 10–0.

The Stormers continued to apply pressure, exploiting space on the right wing and dominating at the breakdown. Mchunu crossed for his second try, with Feinberg-Mngomezulu converting again to stretch the lead to 17–0 by the end of the first quarter.

Glasgow responded in the 25th minute after a loose kick was gathered by the visitors. Sione Tuipulotu broke through the defensive line before the ball was worked wide to Ollie Smith, who finished impressively. Adam Hastings missed the conversion.

The Stormers hit back in the 29th minute when Ruhan Nel capitalised on a loose ball and linked up with Cobus Reinach, who fed Feinberg-Mngomezulu. He, in turn, set up Evan Roos, who powered over for his 11th URC try of the season. The conversion made it 24–5.

Glasgow added another try in the 37th minute, with Gregor Hiddleston finishing from a driving maul. Hastings converted, narrowing the score to 24–12 at half-time.

HALF-TIME: STORMERS 24–12 WARRIORS

The second half followed a similar pattern, with the Stormers maintaining their intensity and control.

Feinberg-Mngomezulu opened the second-half scoring with a penalty to extend the lead to 27–12.

After Jack Dempsey was shown a yellow card for a shoulder-to-head challenge on Andre-Hugo Venter, the Stormers capitalised. A well-structured attacking sequence ended with a clever grubber from Feinberg-Mngomezulu, which was gathered by Nel for another try. The conversion pushed the score to 34–12.

The 68th minute saw the introduction of 18-year-old Markus Muller.

Feinberg-Mngomezulu capped an outstanding performance with a try in the 73rd minute, adding the conversion himself to extend the lead further.

Glasgow struggled to cope with the Stormers’ tempo and effectively conceded in the 77th minute, when Keke Morabe powered over for the home side’s sixth try.

Feinberg-Mngomezulu added the final conversion to round off a dominant display, sending the crowd home delighted as the sun set over DHL Stadium in the Stormers’ final home game of the regular season.
