“Contest On The Coast”: Springboks Lock In Blockbuster Final RWC Warm-Up Against Fiji
The Springboks and Flying Fijians will complete their preparations for the 2027 Rugby World Cup with a final Test at polytec Stadium in Gosford, north of Sydney, on Saturday, 18 September 2027. The match will be known as the Contest on the Coast.
The Boks will begin their defence of the world title just over two weeks later when they take on Italy in Adelaide on Sunday, 3 October.
The match against Fiji, supported by Central Coast Council and launched on Friday – exactly one year before kick-off – will mark only the fourth meeting between the two nations. It will give fans their first opportunity to see the four-time and defending Rugby World Cup champion Springboks and the fan-favourite Fijians in Australia ahead of the 2027 tournament.
The Test will form a vital part of both teams’ preparations for the 2027 Rugby World Cup, with the Springboks aiming for a historic three-peat, while the Flying Fijians will look to build on their 2023 quarter-final appearance as they carry the hopes of the Pacific into a tournament being hosted in their region.
As part of their commitment to the region, both teams will take up residence on the Central Coast in the lead-up to and following the Test. They will establish high-performance training camps that will see them engage with the local community while making use of the region’s world-class facilities.
Springbok head coach Rassie Erasmus said: “We are very excited about the announcement of the clash against Fiji as part of our preparations for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia, and for the opportunity to play another Test match in Gosford on the Central Coast after last facing the Pacific Islanders there in 2004.
“Fiji are a quality team who have consistently tested some of the top sides in the world over the last few years, and they proved in 2023 that they can be a force to be reckoned with by advancing to the quarter-finals of the Rugby World Cup. It’s certainly going to be a great test for our team before the international spectacle in Australia.
“They are one of the top 10 ranked teams in the world, and they are a physical and talented side who will undoubtedly want to take full advantage of the match, just as we will, before the Rugby World Cup kicks off.
“I’d like to thank everyone from the Central Coast and SA Rugby who made this possible, and I have no doubt it is going to be an exciting encounter in an area where both teams enjoy fantastic support.”
With an 18h00 AEST (10h00 SA time) kick-off confirmed, the match is expected to attract proud Springbok and Fijian fans from across Australia to the Central Coast, where they will join locals for the occasion.

Central Coast Mayor Lawrie McKinna said the Test match is an opportunity to showcase the Central Coast to visitors from across Australia and around the world, bringing people into local hotels, restaurants, cafés and businesses while delivering significant economic benefits to the region.

“With just 20,000 seats available, I’d encourage fans to get in early and be part of what promises to be a historic occasion for our region.

With capacity at polytec Stadium capped at 20,000, tickets are expected to be in high demand for the fixture. Tickets will go on sale at 10h00 on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, and fans are encouraged to purchase early to avoid disappointment.
