DDC Wrap: Chiefs Halted, Gallants Claim First Win

Kaizer Chiefs saw their 11-game unbeaten streak come to an end after succumbing to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns, going down to goals from Onele Rulwana and Kutlwano Letlhaku at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Following the result, the 2016/17 PSL Reserve League winners dislodged Amakhosi from the summit of the standings. The youthful Brazilians have collected 38 points, 40 goals scored, and 19 conceded after 17 league outings.

Chiefs dropped down to fourth place with a game in hand behind in-form SuperSport United, who were not in action as they were scheduled to tackle beleaguered Royal AM. The Tshwane side is currently enjoying a six-game unbeaten run.

Meanwhile, defending champions Stellenbosch returned to title conversations after a 2-0 win over resurgent Golden Arrows at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Saturday. The Cape Winelands outfit is level on points with the new log leaders.

In Western Cape, Cape Town City returned to winning ways following a 3-2 victory over KZN side Richards Bay at Malta Sports Complex thanks to a brace from Anovuyo Zinganto and an Emile Witbooi goal–who was making his return from an injury.

There was movement in the middle of the pack as 10-men Orlando Pirates moved one place up to seventh after securing a 2-0 win against Chippa United at Wolfson Stadium through first-half strikes from in-form Siphamandla Msezane and Moses Mphekgoane.

Bernard Parker’s TS Galaxy saw their winless run stretch to five games after suffering a 2-1 defeat to AmaZulu at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium, while Sekhukhune United made it three wins on the trot with a 2-0 win at the expense of Polokwane City in the Limpopo derby.

In their battle at the bottom, Marumo Gallants claimed their first win of the season following a 3-2 win against Magesi FC at Dr. Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein. Bahlabane Ba Ntwa remains in 15th place, level on six points with the Chilli Boys.
