Durban City Player Passes Away

Tragic news has emerged from the Durban City camp, with one of the club players passing away on Tuesday.

The Durban-based side was hosting their provincial rivals Milford in a Motsepe Foundation Championship match at Chatsworth Stadium on Tuesday, a game that has since been suspended.

Both Durban City and Milford released brief statements regarding the situation. Milford stated, “Due to unforeseen circumstances, the game has been suspended. The reason will be updated during the week.”

Durban City, who currently lead the Motsepe Foundation Championship standings, issued their own statement:

MATCH SUSPENDED

“Today’s match has been suspended due to circumstances beyond our control. The Premier Soccer League will issue an official statement in due course.

“We appreciate your understanding and will keep you updated.”

Initial reports suggest that a Durban City player, whose identity has not yet been officially disclosed by the club, reportedly fell and sustained a head injury. An ambulance was called onto the pitch, and the player was rushed to the hospital.

However, it is alleged that the player, known by Sportswire, tragically passed away en route to the hospital, leading to the immediate suspension of the match.

At the time of the suspension, Durban City was trailing Milford by a single goal, scored by Milford midfielder Siphosethu Ndlabi in the fourth minute.

However, Durban City has since confirmed Sinamandla Zondi is the player who has passed away.
