Durban City Set To Rival Yanga For Congolese Star
Newly promoted Betway Premiership club, Durban City, are understood to have entered the race to acquire the services of FC Saint-Eloi Lupopo defensive midfielder Mick Harvy Ossete, Sportswire has learnt.
The anchor man from Congo-Brazzaville has emerged as a household name in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Linafoot Ligue 1, catching the eye with dazzling performances in the heart of Lupopo’s midfield.
Ossete has been an integral and regular feature in the starting XI since joining the club in the 2022/23 season from Diables Noirs in his native country. The dynamic midfielder helped his side to a second-place standing with 33 points from 16 matches before the cancellation of the remaining matches last term.
This caught the attention of Tanzanian giants Young Africans, who recently won the league title for a record-extending fourth consecutive season. Yanga retain a long-standing interest in Ossete as they look to bolster the squad ahead of the new season.
However, information reaching this publication indicates that Timu Ya Wananchi faces competition for the 25-year-old’s signature, with the Betway Premiership team believed to have opened club-to-club talks with Lupopo.
Sources suggest personal terms are not expected to be a problem as the KZN-based side is in active negotiations with the player’s camp with optimism of reaching an agreement ahead of a potential switch to the PSL.
While there is strong interest in Ossete from both sets of clubs, any potential deal is likely to hinge on the technical team’s approval, with the two sides working on appointing new head coaches for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign.
City is on the verge of finalizing a deal to appoint experienced mentor Gavin Hunt as the new leader in the dugout and Ernst Middendorp as the technical director. Meanwhile, Yanga are said to be interested in ASEC Mimosas coach Julien Chevalier.
