Eben, Kolisi And Tau Nominated For SA Sports Awards

Double World Cup winners – Siya Kolisi and Eben Etzebeth are up for the big gongs in the SA Sports Awards.
Kolisi, who joined Ritchie McCaw to have won the Rugby World Cup back-to-back as the captain, is nominated for the Sports Star of the Year and People’s Choice Award.
The Boks flanker will fight for the latter award with Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau, who helped the men’s national team claim the bronze medal in the Africa Cup of Nations in February.
Etzebeth, who carried over the key try against France in the quarter-final, is nominated for the Sportsman of the Year, after winning the back-to-back SA Rugby Player of the Year.
Manie Libbok, whose wayward boot infuriated many South Africans during the tournament in France, is nominated for the Newcomer of the Year.
SA Rugby is nominated for Federation of the Year while the Springboks are heavy favourites to win the Team of The Year.
Jacques Nienaber, who left the Boks after the World Cup last year to head back to Ireland, is nominated for the Coach of the Year award.
Bafana, despite winning the bronze for the first time in 24 years, is not nominated in any categories, and so too captain Ronwen Williams.
The 17th Edition of the awards are scheduled to take place on 5 May at the Sun City Superbowl, North-West.
“The 17th edition of the South African Sports Awards take place at a significant time in South Africa’s history,” said Sports Minister Zizi Kodwa.
“We celebrate 30 years of democracy, and our national athletes and teams have been raising the nation’s flag sky high.
“In the South African Sports Awards, we celebrate the role sport continues to play to unite our diverse people, and in lifting the nation’s mood.”
