Fadlu’s Simba, Yanga Set For Title Decider In Kariakoo Derby

Fadlu Davids’ Simba SC and their bitter rivals Young Africans will lock horns in what will be a highly anticipated title-deciding match in the famed Kariakoo derby in the last match of the season on Wednesday.
The two Tanzanian giants won their respective matchday 29 fixtures on Sunday afternoon, with the South African mentor guiding his troops to a narrow 1-0 victory over already-relegated Kagera Sugar, thanks to Steven Mukwala’s goal.
Meanwhile, Yanga claimed maximum points at the expense of Dodoma Jiji FC as Clatous Chama, Duke Abuya, Ibrahim Bacca, Maxi Nzengeli, and an own goal from Joash Onyango sealed an emphatic 5-0 win ahead of the season finale.
With the penultimate fixture on the horizon, the log leaders retain a one-point lead over second-placed Simba, having amassed 79 points after their recent triumph, while Davids’ men managed to pick up 78 points thus far.
The former Orlando Pirates co-coach will be eager to knock Yanga off their perch and end his team’s league title drought, as the Reds of Msimbazi were last crowned Tanzanian champions in the 2020/21 season.
On the other hand, Miloud Hamdi, who succeeded former TS Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic in the hot seat in January, will be keen to guide the title holders to a fourth consecutive championship in the Tanzanian top-flight division.
Timu Ya Wananchi will be eyeing a league double over Simba when the two powerhouses clash at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Wednesday, having won the first leg, courtesy of a Nzengeli goal in the 89th minute back in October last year.
It remains to be seen who will reign supreme in the 2024/25 Tanzanian Premier League campaign as Yanga are in contention for a domestic double, while the league is the only silverware that could prevent a trophyless season for Simba.
