Fog Ends Proteas’ Series Hopes As Fourth T20I Is Abandoned

The fourth T20 International between South Africa and India was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to severe fog at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Wednesday.

The results mean the Proteas cannot come back and win the series and can only hope for a draw.

The match, which was supposed to begin at 15:30 SA time, was delayed several times with regular inspections done by the match officials before it was finally called off at 18:00 SA time.

South Africa had been hoping to bounce back after a seven-wicket defeat in Dharamsala in the third T20I three days ago – a result that handed India a 2-1 series lead.

However, the abandonment has ended the Proteas’ chances of a series victory, leaving them with only the opportunity to salvage a draw heading into the final match.

The fifth and final T20I will be played on Friday, 19 December at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

This match will also conclude South Africa’s all-format tour of India, in which they won the Test series with a clean sweep but lost the ODI series 2-1.
