Former Bafana Midfielder Dikgacoi Appointed As A Coach
Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Kagiso Dikgacoi has joined Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League club Phezulu FC as a Co-Coach.
The former Lamontville Golden Arrows midfielder, along with coach Darai Mujokoro, has been appointed as the co-coaches for the Secunda-based club in the upcoming 2024/25 season.
Phezulu finished fourth in their provincial ABC Motsepe League standings last season with 46 points from 28 matches. They will face Secunda M Masters in the Nedbank Cup preliminary fixture at Lillian Ngoyi Stadium on 31 August.
Dikgacoi retired in 2018 at the age of 33 and was the head coach of Mangaung United in the Free State ABC Motsepe League last season.
The former Bafana Bafana star enjoyed a successful career abroad, spending seven years in England between 2009 and 2016. He played for clubs such as Fulham, Crystal Palace, and Cardiff City.
Dikgacoi was part of Roy Hodgson’s Fulham side that reached the Europa League final in the 2009/10 season, ultimately losing to Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.
Internationally, the 39-year-old was capped 55 times for Bafana Bafana and scored two goals, both in a single match against Equatorial Guinea during the CAF zone FIFA World Cup qualifiers in 2008.
He was also a member of the Bafana Bafana team that reached the semi-finals of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup on home soil, a tournament that served as a warm-up for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Dikgacoi will forever be remembered for setting up Siphiwe Tshabalala to score the opening goal against Mexico at FNB Stadium during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. However, Bafana Bafana failed to hang on the lead and to advance to the knockout stages, becoming the first host nation not to do so.
