Former Chiefs Star Still Going Strong In Saudi Arabia

Former Kaizer Chiefs deadly frontman Knowledge Musona is making waves in Saudi Arabia as he helped Saudi Pro League outfit Al Akhdoud survive relegation with his dazzling performances in front of goal.

The Najran-based outfit survived the axe in the last game of the season after securing a 3-2 victory over Al Khaleej on Monday. Al Akhdoud beat the drop with one point after finishing the season in 15th place in the 18-team championship with 34 points accumulated from 34 games.

In the fight against relegation, the former Amakhosi star chipped in with five goals and three assists in 30 matches. It was his debut season with the club after parting ways with fellow Saudi top-flight side Al Riyadh at the end of last season.

Interestingly, the 34-year-old forward provided two assists in back-to-back games in the run-in. The assists proved crucial, with the last one being set up for an equalizer in the comeback victory in the team’s penultimate match.

However, while he has been aging like fine wine and impressing in the Middle East, the veteran attacker has been excluded from Zimbabwe’s squad for the June Friendlies against Burkina Faso and Niger set to place in Morocco.

Musona was recently recalled to the Warriors’ squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Benin and Nigeria in March after a three-year absence. The former national team captain had last represented Zimbabwe in 2022 before announcing his retirement from international football.

The ex-Chiefs talisman made a significant contribution on his return to the international stage, scoring the equalizing goal against Benin to salvage a point for Michael Nees’ troops. Zimbabwe is currently rooted at the bottom of Bafana Bafana’s Group C with four points from six matches.

Musona has scored 24 goals in 54 caps for the Zimbabwe national team since making his debut in March 2010. It remains to be seen whether the experienced player will be recalled to the squad for the resumption of the qualifiers and the AFCON in Morocco later this year.
