Former Pirates Star Closing In On A New Club

Former Orlando Pirates winger Bernard Morrison is on the verge of finding a new home in Tanzania as he closes in on a return to the NBC Premier League after spending six months in the wilderness following his stint in Morocco.

The Ghanaian player has been without a club since July 2024 after he was deemed surplus to requirements by ASFAR as his contract was not extended at the end of the 2023/24 season, making way for new recruits.

Before his release at the Moroccan giants, Morrison was heavily linked with a move to Rwandan champions APR FC but the move never materialized with the club eventually opting to bring in youth over experience in the flanks.

Now, sources in Tanzania suggest that the 31-year-old has agreed to a six-month contract with relegation-threatened KenGold FC ahead of the second half of the campaign, with the player also pictured at Songwe Airport in Tanzania holding the club’s pennant.

The Goldminers as the Tanzanian outfit is fondly known, are facing an uphill battle to avoid the axe as they are rooted at the bottom of the table with six points accumulated from 16 matches played thus far.

Overall, they boast a single win in the league which dates back to October, while they have drawn three encounters and lost a staggering 12 games with 29 goals conceded and 11 scored – intensifying the need to reinforce their squad in their bid for survival.

Meanwhile, barring any last-minute changes, Morrison will return to familiar territory in Tanzanian football, having turned out for both Young Africans and Simba SC where he had his fair share of controversy at each club.

In 2021, after successfully forcing a move to Simba from Yanga, he celebrated in front of his former supporters by removing his pants after netting in the Kariakoo derby. At Simba, he was suspended for leaving camp without receiving any permission in February 2022.

Pending an official announcement, it remains to be seen whether Morrison can revive his career and steer KenGold away from the danger zone with his attacking prowess and versatility as he is capable of playing anywhere across the front three.
