Galaxy Appoint Parker On Interim Basis
Sportswire has been informed that Bernard Parker will be installed as interim coach while TS Galaxy searches for a new head coach.
Parker, who recently retired and will take over as the club’s DDC coach next season, is set to lead the team from the bench when they face Young Africans in a friendly match at Kanyamazane Stadium on Wednesday.
This comes as current Galaxy coach Sead Ramovic is leaving the club to take over at Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca. Ramovic replaces Josef Zinnbauer, the former Orlando Pirates coach who is departing from Raja. Zinnbauer, who led Pirates to the MTN8 trophy in 2020/21, secured two trophies, including an undefeated league title, with Raja last season.
Ramovic, who guided Galaxy to their highest-ever PSL finish in sixth place last term, will be joined at Raja Casablanca by his technical coaches, Beganovic Adnan, Kodro Mustafa, and goalkeeper coach Greg Etafia.
Ramovic’s move to Morocco will reignite his rivalry with former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena, who was appointed as head coach of Wydad Casablanca. The two coaches clashed last October when Mokwena complained about missing several players who were on Bafana Bafana duty against Ivory Coast, only to see them play for Galaxy in a Carling Knockout Cup match the following day. Ramovic responded by criticizing Mokwena’s lack of sportsmanship, highlighting Sundowns’ substantial squad.
The feud escalated in April after Sundowns defeated Galaxy 3-0, with Mokwena alleging a conspiracy to injure midfielder Bongani Zungu, who accidentally broke Parker’s foot in an earlier match. Galaxy subsequently filed a lawsuit against Mokwena for defamation, denying the allegations and seeking legal recourse. The outcome of this case remains unknown.
