Galaxy Parts Ways With Veteran Midfielder In Surprise Move

Sportswire can confirm that TS Galaxy has surprisingly parted ways with veteran midfielder Mpho Mvelase

This decision comes despite Mvelase featuring in 27 matches, scoring one goal and providing one assist for Galaxy this past season.

His contributions helped the club achieve its highest-ever position in the Betway Premiership, finishing fifth under coach Sead Ramović.

That singular goal was scored when Galaxy drew against his former club, Orlando Pirates, at Orlando Stadium in May.

The hardworking Mvelase joined Galaxy from Marumo Gallants at the start of the 2023/24 season. He was a consistent presence in his first season, playing in 34 matches and scoring three goals. He was also part of the Galaxy squad that lost the inaugural Carling Knockout to Stellenbosch at Moses Mabhida Stadium during his first season with the club.

The 36-year-old, in addition to his time with Pirates, has also played for Polokwane City, Chippa United, and Royal Eagles.

During his tenure with the Soweto Giants, Mvelase was part of the team that lost the CAF Confederation Cup final to Etoile du Sahel in 2015 under Eric Tinkler, as well as the Nedbank Cup final to SuperSport United in the 2015/16 season.

Another career disappointment occurred when Gallants lost the Nedbank Cup final against Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2021/22 season.

Throughout his career, Mvelase has played in 188 matches, scoring 12 goals and providing 10 assists.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Mvelase, whose departure from Galaxy, despite his advancing age, has come as a significant surprise.
