Struggling Gallants Appoint New Coach

Bottom side in the Motsepe Foundation Championship Marumo Gallants has appointed Stan Nkoane to save them from relegation to the third tier.

Nkoane, who made history in the Nedbank Cup a few seasons ago, has been appointed as the coach of the club to work with Mpho Maleka and former Kaizer Chiefs defender Rodney Thobejane.

Gallants, who were relegated in the topflight last season, are facing their second successive relegation, lying at the in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

It has been a nightmare season for the Gallants as they have collected 20 points after 23 matches. They have only won four matches, and last did so in February. All those victories have come from home.

Nkoane, who has had a spell with Sekhukhune United, holds a record in South African club football. He oversaw Vaal University of Technology (VUT) in the Nedbank Cup in the 2019/20 season, beating Steve Komphela’s Golden Arrows on penalties in the first round, becoming the first side from the fourth tier to beat a team from PSL topflight.

The former Baroka FC coach’s first game in charge will be in Durban when they visit Milford FC at Princess Magogo Stadium on Tuesday.
