Johnson Praises Chiefs’ Response Despite Red Card

Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson believes his team’s response to a red card was a positive sign compared to their previous outing.

Chiefs were held to a 2-2 draw by TS Galaxy at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday despite seeing their two-goal lead erased. Ranga Chivaviro and Sphiwe Mahlangu each scored twice, but Chiefs were forced to play the entire second half with ten men after Edmilson Dove received a red card for a reckless challenge.

This marked the second consecutive red card for Chiefs, following Given Msimango’s dismissal against Mamelodi Sundowns last week. While Sundowns capitalized with a 5-1 thrashing, Galaxy couldn’t capitalize on the advantage.

“You know you got the red card again,” said Johnson on SuperSport TV after the game.

“You asked yourself ‘It’s not happening again?’

“But I thought we came out well, we played better. It was 10 men this week and 10 men last week, but obviously different teams.

“But they (Galaxy) missed two big chances that I thought we were really fast asleep, but we came out of it. I thought we had a lot of chances after we made it 2-1, but we didn’t defend the corner correctly and they scored to make it 2-2.

“But the rest of the game, I thought we had better chances than they had when we were 10 men then when we had 11 players.

“So, we have to give players some credit because they put in a good shift, they worked hard, we stayed compact in the middle, they couldn’t get through balls going.”

With three games remaining in the season and Chiefs still sitting eighth in the table with 34 points, Johnson emphasizes the need to finish strong. “We need to work incredibly hard in these remaining matches to secure maximum points,” he declared.
