Johnson To Submit Season’s Report

Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson has stated his intention to submit a technical report to the club’s management detailing the events of this season, where he served as the caretaker coach until its conclusion.

Chiefs have endured a tumultuous season, marked by inconsistent team performances and multiple coaching changes. Failure to win their next two matches could jeopardize their chances of finishing in the top eight.

Johnson, who previously led Platinum Stars to a second-place finish in the 2015/16 season, was unable to replicate that success after taking over for the dismissed Molefi Ntseki in October.

Having previously served as assistant coach to Pitso Mosimane, who led Al Ahly to victory over Kaizer Chiefs in the 2021 CAF Champions League final, Johnson faced similar struggles as his predecessor. Currently, Chiefs sit in eighth place with 35 points after 28 matches.

“Regardless of whether you’re here for two weeks or five years, it’s standard practice for a head coach to report to their superiors,” Johnson affirmed.

Chiefs’ penultimate home game of the season takes place on Saturday against Polokwane City at FNB Stadium (15:00). The Limpopo side sits just one sport behind Chiefs in ninth place.

“At the moment, Kaizer Chiefs, I’m not looking at that and I don’t think any of the players are looking at that now,” said Johnson.

“Because you will do introspection at the end of the season with the current bosses. But from now on all I’m worried about is on Saturday.”

When asked about the season’s rollercoaster nature, Johnson acknowledged the media’s portrayal.

“We all know those are stories that go out in the media,” said Johnson.

“And we know people are analyzing, we know how people think about football and how they make up points, deduct points things like that. That has been part of the season thus far. Like I tell you now, we are having a press conference for three points only.”
