Kaizer Chiefs Coach Wary Of Motivated Stellenbosch

Kaizer Chiefs interim coach Cedric Kaze says he expects Stellenbosch FC to be highly motivated for their Carling Knockout Cup match at DHL Stadium on Sunday.

While Chiefs have had a strong run against Stellenbosch, winning all four of their last four meetings, Kaze is preparing for a difficult encounter.

Stellenbosch enters the game “wounded,” currently struggling with relegation concerns in the Betway Premiership league and having recently lost the MTN8 final to Orlando Pirates.

Focusing on Concentration, Not History

Chiefs, meanwhile, are looking to add another title to their cabinet, having ended a long trophy drought by winning the Nedbank Cup last season.

Kaze stressed that Chiefs must be cautious when facing a team struggling in the league, as cup competitions can often provide a turning point.

“Unfortunately, the history of the last fixtures that Kaizer Chiefs won against Stellenbosch is not going to be of any help in this game,” Kaze said. “Which means that we need to be very concentrated; we need to go all out.”

He elaborated on the danger of underestimating their opponents: “A team like Stellenbosch that is not doing so well in the league… it is those kinds of tournaments that can revive teams and can give a fresh start to the squad. We know they will be highly motivated to do a different thing in a different tournament—that’s why we need to go there very concentrated.”

Ready for the Battle

Kaze further added that despite the anticipated challenge, Chiefs are ready, as their aim is to advance deep into the tournament.

“We are looking to have a tough game, but we are ready for the battle,” Kaze added. “It is a tournament that we want to go as far as we can, and why not until the end.”
