Kurt-Lee Grateful And Happy, But Aware Of The Work Ahead

Kurt-Lee Arendse made a triumphant return to the Springboks lineup against Japan following an injury-riddled period that kept him sidelined since 16 August 2025.

In that game, South Africa were soundly defeated in their Rugby Championship opener against Australia at Ellis Park, but his return ended with an emphatic victory against the Cherry Blossoms that saw him earn the man of the match award in a 61-7 onslaught.

Arendse described it as a “good collective effort” but was quick to give credit to the forwards, insisting that the backs took the plaudits while the forward pack put in the hard graft.

Being a part of a side that never rests on its laurels, nor takes any opposition lightly, the electric winger spoke about this week’s massive Test against France, “Ya obviously the win was good (against Japan), we’re going to have to prepare well for France because I think they will want revenge from the World Cup. We must just plan well and stick to that plan.”

The Bulls winger appeared to take his injury lay-off positively, saying it was all part of the game but emphasised that he was happy to be back and glad to be contributing to the side once again.

Arendse crossed the try line twice against Japan, taking his international tally to 23 tries in 28 Tests – an impressive strike rate for one of world rugby’s most dangerous finishers.

Well aware that the tour was a long and arduous one – and that proper preparation is vital, Arendse said, “We knew about the two games that are outside the Test window, but if we prepare well for the upcoming games, we can make it a good Autumn series.”

“Just happy we could start before the Autumn series and start well,” were the words echoed by the speedster with a beaming smile.

With France poised to be one of the toughest assignments this year, the Springboks will hope the smile remains and so do the positive results.
