Pirates Consider Loaning Midfielder To Two PSL Clubs

Orlando Pirates is set to give their young midfielder Simphiwe Selepe a chance to gain valuable experience elsewhere, with a potential loan move to be explored during the January transfer window, Sportswire has learnt.

The 20-year-old has been struggling to find game time under the guidance of Moroccan coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, prompting the club to consider loaning him out to help him develop his skills.

Selepe has been with the Buccaneers since the 2023/24 season, initially playing in the DStv Diski Challenge team before being promoted to the first team during the latter part of the last season under Spanish mentor Jose Riveiro.

During his time under Riveiro, Selepe made seven appearances and scored one goal, impressing Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos, who called him up to represent the national team in June.

This marked his second stint with the national team, having previously represented the U20 side.

However, Selepe’s fortunes have taken a turn for the worse this season, with him failing to make a single appearance under Ouaddou’s guidance.

The young midfielder has also struggled to even make the match-day squad, leading the club to consider loaning him out to give him the game time he desperately needs.

“Pirates is considering loaning Simphiwe Selepe in January,” a source close to the club told Sportswire.

“Coach Ouaddou believes he is a great asset for the club, but wants to loan him to get game time, as this season, he is not in his plans. Pirates have many midfielders, and Chippa United, alongside Orbit College, are their current option for the loan deal.”

The potential loan move would be a positive development for Selepe, who would look to gain valuable experience and playing time at Chippa United.

Interestingly, the Buccaneers have already taken one player on loan at Chippa, with Goodman Mosele currently plying his trade at the side. Azola Tshobeni, on the other hand, joined Chippa on a permanent deal, as per his agency P Management.

Monnapule Saleng, Yanga Madiba, and Thuso Moleleki are at Orbit College on loan.
