Kutumela Close To AmaZulu Move

Striker Thabiso Kutumela is close to joining AmaZulu, Sportswire has been informed.

Kutumela has been a free agent since his departure from AmaZulu’s neighbors, Richards Bay, at the end of last season. However, he reminded everyone of his abilities by scoring goals during the recent CHAN tournament in East Africa.

In the four matches played by the Bafana Bafana team coached by Molefi Ntseki, Kutumela scored three goals. Despite his efforts, the team failed to advance to the next round after conceding two late goals to Uganda, with the game ending in a 3-3 draw.

The 32-year-old striker looked sharp throughout the tournament, proving he still has what it takes to play at a high level, despite being without a club.

If Kutumela’s move to AmaZulu is finalized, it will be the third club he has played for in KwaZulu-Natal. He previously played for Maritzburg United (now Durban City) before joining Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of the 2021/22 season.

According to Sportswire sources, Sundowns paid a significant transfer fee for him, which was the highest Maritzburg had ever received for a player at the time.

During his tenure at Sundowns, Kutumela won two league titles, the Nedbank Cup, and the MTN8. However, due to increased competition for a starting spot, he was loaned to Cape Town City during the 2023/24 season.

After completing his loan, Sundowns confirmed his departure, leading to his signing with Richards Bay. At the Natal Rich Boys, he managed to score only one goal in 11 matches across all competitions.
