Lebusa Reflects On Sundowns’ Season & FIFA Club World Cup Hopes

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Mosa Lebusa has shared his thoughts on the highs and lows of the club as he reflects on the 2024/25 campaign.

The Brazilians secured only the Betway Premiership League trophy this past season, out of the five competitions they were competing for.

The veteran defender discussed the team’s season, noting that everything is overshadowed by their CAF Champions League final setback against Pyramids last weekend.

“To be quite honest with you, this Champions League loss overshadows everything,” said Lebusa. “But I think the first one would be winning the league obviously, and the lowest is losing the Champions League final.

“I think we have to pick ourselves up from that, learn from it and make sure that going into the next season, we’ve learnt, we do better and we go a step further.”

Despite the recent setback, Amasandawana has a monumental challenge ahead: the expanded FIFA Club World Cup 2025 in the United States. The prestigious tournament is scheduled to commence on June 14 and conclude on July 13.

Lebusa emphasized the invaluable experience the FIFA Club World Cup will offer, particularly facing elite European football clubs.

“It’s the experience,” Lebusa stated.

“Being there and playing against the top European teams that you normally watch on TV and get to see how they play football, how they take football, you know, I think we’re going to learn a lot from them.”

The Brazilians will begin their campaign against Ulsan HD on 18 June at the Inter & Co Stadium. They will then face German giants Borussia Dortmund before concluding Group F against Brazilian side Fluminense.
