Maboe Dismisses Rift Rumours As Chiefs Look To End Poor Run

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lebohang Maboe believes the team has been unlucky in recent matches but insists the squad is united and working hard to turn their fortunes around.

Amakhosi have struggled during the second half of the 2025/26 season, suffering three consecutive defeats in the Betway Premiership. The most damaging result came in the Soweto derby, where Chiefs were beaten 3-0 by rivals Orlando Pirates.

The club’s struggles have extended beyond the league. Chiefs were eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup and also failed to defend their Nedbank Cup title after crashing out in their opening match of the tournament.

The recent slump has sparked rumours suggesting a breakdown in the relationship between the players and the technical team, with speculation that tensions have contributed to the team’s poor run over the past five games.

However, Maboe has strongly dismissed those claims, insisting the squad remains fully supportive of the coaching staff and focused on improving results.

“There’s no such thing,” said Maboe.

“There’s absolutely no such thing. These are our coaches, these are our leaders, and for us as players, we share the same goal, which is helping the team to get maximum points and win every game.

“It’s just unfortunate that the past three weeks have damaged the work that we’ve been doing for the past three, four months, to be honest with you.

“But this is the situation we are faced with right now, but we are confident and working together that we will turn the corner around,” Maboe added.
