Mammila Takes Over At Baroka
Administrator-turned head coach Morgan Mammila has been appointed to take charge of Baroka FC with immediate effect.
According to the Sportswire sources, Mammila took training of the club on Tuesday, the day after the club suspended Dan Malesela on Monday.
This website broke the news on Monday that Malesela was suspended by the club with the immediate effect and the club chairman Khurishi Mphahlele said they will institute their own internal investigation.
Malesela was appointed by the club in October 2023 following the departure of Stan Nkoane. The former TS Galaxy coach helped the club finish third in the Motsepe Foundation Championship this past season to qualify for the PSL promotion and relegation playoffs.
However, they lost the first game of the playoffs to University of Pretoria at TUKS Stadium on Sunday, which according to the Sportswire sources angered the club.
However, Nkoane was linked with the same point to replace Malesela, but it didn’t happen because he needed some changes within the club, but it could not agree.
It is why Baroka have gone for Mammila, who recently left Chippa United as the technical director. He started as the Chippa head coach in the first round of the season, but he was replaced during the Africa Cup of Nations break in January by Kwanele Kopo and Thabo September as the co-coach.
Mammila knows Baroka well. He was the Baroka’s CEO when they became the first Limpopo team to win a major trophy (Telkom Knockout trophy) in the 2018/19 season by defeating Orlando Pirates at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on penalties.
Baroka was relegated at the end of the 2021/22 campaign, without winning an away match, becoming the second side in the PSL era after Ajax Cape Town (Cape Town Spurs) in the 2017/18 season.
