Mbokazi: I Won’t Disappoint In America

Defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi says he will not disappoint as he played his final match for Orlando Pirates in their Carling Knockout triumph over Marumo Gallants at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

Mbokazi will join MLS side Chicago Fire in January, after the conclusion of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, which runs from 18 December to 18 January 2026.

The 20-year-old signed off in style as Relebohile Mofokeng scored a late winner, securing Pirates’ second trophy in four months.

Mofokeng, who has been relatively quiet by his standards this season, slotted home in the first half of extra time after the match ended goalless in regulation time.

This is Pirates’ second trophy of the season, having also lifted the MTN8 in September under new coach Abdelsam Ouaddou.

Pirates headed into the Carling Knockout final having won this competition only once since 2000 — in the 2011/12 season, also at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, where they defeated Bidvest Wits.

“I want to thank my teammates — we were able to win this game together,” said Mbokazi on SuperSport TV.

“I want to assure everyone that I won’t disappoint wherever I’m going. Thank you.”

This was Mbokazi’s 40th appearance for Pirates. He made his debut in March last season and has scored two goals and provided two assists.
