Miguel: We Want To Win Every Match

Newly appointed Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has revealed what people can expect from the Brazilians this season.
The Portuguese coach, who was announced as the new coach on Tuesday, his first game will be against the Moroccan giant Raja Club Athletic at Loftus Stadium on Sunday in the group stage of the CAF Champions League.
The former Espérance Sportive de Tunis coach said they want to win all games in all competitions. “The mostly permanent ambition, that’s what you should expect from Sundowns this season,” Cardoso said.
“Why do I think about ambition? We want to win every match everywhere. We know the levels of games that we are playing, so we have plans for them.
“We know the level of teams that are in the Champions League at this moment, so with the biggest respect to every opponent we should take ourselves to the next level.”
Meanwhile, the former Shakhtar Donetsk coach also revealed the type of football that Sundowns fans must expect from his side this season.
“We don’t want to just kick the ball around because that’s what we do before we start training sessions where players have some fun. We want to quickly move the ball up the pitch to find spaces that will allow us to be offensive and aggressive,” the 52-year-old coach added.
“Depending on the opposition and the way they play, sometimes it takes long and sometimes it may be quicker but let’s hope we can be quicker to find spaces. If we can’t find the spaces, we have to be patient by controlling the ball.
“We must also have the organization to control games even if we don’t have the ball, that is what we want from our team. Also not to stress without the ball or when we have the ball. These games come from detail and we have to be detailed in our preparations.”
Cardoso’s new side currently has only two points in their group in the Champions League. The Brazilians played two draws in their first two games against AS Maniema Union and AS FAR away.
In the Betway Premiership, Sundowns are currently at the summit with 21 points after eight games, but that was not enough as they parted ways with coach Manqoba Mngqithi.
