Milford FC Receive Heroes’ Welcome At King Shaka International Airport After Promotion

KwaZulu-Natal Sports Confederation, as well as the sports department in the province, delivered a heroes’ welcome to Milford FC at King Shaka International Airport on Sunday as the squad touched down following their historic promotion to the Betway Premiership.

The Stallions secured their place in South Africa’s elite league after a gruelling 1-1 draw against Magesi FC at Seshego Stadium on Saturday.

Entering the playoff finale two points clear at the top of the mini-league table, Milford needed just a single point to book their top-flight ticket and condemn their opponents to the second-tier Motsepe Foundation Championship.

Milford head coach and chairman Dr. Xanti Pupuma, a practicing gynecologist, expressed his absolute thrill with the club’s rapid ascent.

Beyond the main stage, Pupuma highlighted his excitement at automatic qualification for the DStv Diski Challenge reserve league, which will force the club to establish a brand-new youth academy structure.

What did Dr. Xanti Pupuma say about Milford’s promotion?

Though an early header from Magesi’s Edmore Chirambandare briefly rattled the traveling Milford management and support staff, Pupuma remained composed. His tactical patience paid off when Menzi Chili struck a brilliant second-half equalizer to seal the deal.

“We always knew we were going to score a goal,” Pupuma said.

“As long as we didn’t concede more than one, we knew we were in a strong position. Fortunately, the equalizer came. In the end, it was simply about creating our own chances and taking full responsibility on the pitch.”

Which KZN teams will play in the Betway Premiership?

Milford’s promotional triumph adds a fifth KwaZulu-Natal club to the top flight for the upcoming campaign. The newcomers join established provincial rivals AmaZulu, Golden Arrows, Durban City, and Richards Bay.

The region’s football footprint is currently at an all-time high, with three of those local sides—AmaZulu, Arrows, and Durban City—having secured top-eight finishes in the premier tier last term. Milford’s arrival officially turns KwaZulu-Natal into the primary powerhouse geographical hub of South African football.
