Mohafe Laments Lack Of Concentration After Narrow Loss To Chiefs

Polokwane City coach Phuti Mohafe attributed his team’s 1-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday night to a moment of lack of concentration, which led to the conceding of the only goal of the game.

Rise and Shine had started the season with a 0-0 draw against Magesi in their opening league game over the past weekend.

“I can’t say the subs that Chiefs made stabilized us, but it’s the move that stabilized us,” Mohafe said.

“I think the knowledge that says, ‘You need to remember that you need to track back, and if you don’t track back, then you’re going to have a problem with those players playing with diagonal,’ is something we learned in this game.”

Mohafe pinpointed the exact moment where his team went wrong, citing a lapse in defensive concentration.

“So, it was just a moment of lack of concentration, and that is how we conceded,” he explained.

“On the other side, we didn’t track the full back, and our winger was somewhere else and didn’t track (Reeve) Frosler, who crossed the ball for a goal.”

The Rise and Shine coach emphasized the importance of defensive discipline, stressing that a lack of attention to detail can punish the entire team.

“So, had we defended properly, then we should have drawn the match,” he said.

“But it’s something that we need to go forward and talk with the team to tell them that if you’re not doing your part, then you’re punishing the whole team.”

Despite the loss, Mohafe’s side will look to bounce back in their next game against Siwelele, who lost to Orbit College on Tuesday.

Rise and Shine are currently sitting in 12th position in the Betway Premiership with only one point after two games, and they will be looking to get back to winning ways as they face Siwelele away from home.
