Motaung: Chiefs’ Winning Streak Fuels Hopes of Glory Days

Kaizer Chiefs’ Marketing and Commercial Director, Jessica Motaung, believes the team’s recent performances indicate a return to their glory days.
After winning the Nedbank Cup last season, Amakhosi have started the new season on a high note, playing five games with four wins and one draw, while remaining the only team yet to concede in the Betway Premiership.
“Without winning, good things can’t happen, but I think the floodgates are open now, and you can see how the team has been performing now, and you can see how the team has started, and the energy is different,” Motaung said when asked whether the recent performance indicates the return of their glory days or not.
“I think it’s good to continue winning because when we win, even the community benefits.”
Amakhosi’s impressive form was evident during their match against Mamelodi Sundowns, which was midweek, where the stadium was packed with over 70,000 fans, forcing the club to stop selling tickets.
“I think you saw that the stadium was full during the week against Mamelodi Sundowns, and that speaks to how the team is perceived,” Motaung emphasised.
“Obviously, winning adds to it, and it was great to see fans coming in numbers, and we even stopped selling tickets after selling more than 70,000, and still, some people were willing to buy, but we stopped.”
Motaung attributed the team’s success to their strong heritage, built on relationships with sponsors, and the marketing team’s creativity.
“One of the things I think is our heritage; our heritage starts from our great relationship we have with our sponsors,” she added.
“We try by everything to be creative, and with my marketing team, we work hard to make sure that we come up with new, great ideas.
“We also benchmark ourselves to what’s happening in the world, and there’s still a lot we want to do in the marketing department.”
The team’s loyal supporters have been instrumental in their success, according to Motaung.
“But whatever we’re doing is because of our supporters; they are the reason we’re the brand we are,” she concluded.
“If we haven’t had these supporters who are loyal to us, showing support even when things are not going well, we wouldn’t be here, and we wouldn’t be selling jerseys.”
As Chiefs prepare to face log leaders Sekhukhune United at FNB Stadium on 16 September, they aim to top the log.
The Phefeni Glamour Boys will compete in four competitions this season, including the league, CAF Confederation Cup, Nedbank Cup, and Carling Knockout.
