Music Concert Added To Chiefs’ Toyota Cup

A music concert has been added to the Toyota Cup match between Kaizer Chiefs and Asante Kotoko of Ghana, set to take place at the Moses Mabhida Stadium next month.
The Toyota Cup, a one-off pre-season match that debuted last year in Bloemfontein with Chiefs, will be played at the iconic Durban venue on 26 July.
Recognizing that football is a form of entertainment, the game will be preceded by a music concert featuring renowned local artists, as well as a curtain-raiser match between Kaizer Chiefs Legends and Zulu Kingdom Legends.
eThekwini Mayor Councillor Cyril Xaba described the Toyota Cup’s announcement as another vote of confidence in the City’s ability to host major sporting events.
“It also demonstrates that we continue to be the premier destination for events, conferences, and entertainment,” said Mayor Xaba. “We want to assure both teams and supporters who will be attending the event that we are ready to host them. We will put all necessary measures in place to ensure that we deliver a successful event.”
While the musical artists who will share the stage have not yet been revealed, it is expected that legendary DJ Tira, a Chiefs fan, will be in the mix, along with Big Zulu, who is also a Chiefs fan, and MaWhoo.
The municipality added in a statement that “the event is expected to bring huge economic spin-offs to the city and create job opportunities for locals.”
The Moses Mabhida Stadium serves as an alternative venue for Chiefs, who have played some of their league matches in Durban for close to 10 years and will continue to do so in the coming season.
Chiefs ended a 10-year trophy drought at the venue when they beat Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final on 10 May.
