Nabi Praises Smart Recruitment On Maboe

Kaizer Chiefs’ coach, Nasreddine Nabi, has praised his management’s shrewdness in acquiring a quality player like Lebohang Maboe.

The Tunisian coach noted that Maboe has gained significant experience with Mamelodi Sundowns.

Nabi mentioned that they are working to get Maboe’s fitness up to standard since he didn’t participate in the club’s pre-season training.

The same goes for other new signings, Asanele Velebayi, Etiosa Ighodaro, and Luke Baartman, who joined from Sundowns and Cape Town Spurs, respectively.

Chiefs secured second place on the league table after a 1-0 victory over Golden Arrows in a Betway Premiership match at the bustling Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Flavio Da Silva, making his official debut, was the hero of the day, scoring in the 69th minute after a precise reverse pass from Gaston Sirino.

After the game, a proud Nabi spoke about the club’s new additions.

“For Maboe, I have to say congratulations to the board,” Nabi said. “They did a good job; they were so smart in making the recruitment right. Maboe is an intelligent player, and we need his quality, we need him.”

He added, “He has a lot of experience, and he will help us with his experience accumulated from Mamelodi Sundowns. Now, he is working with the fitness coaches and whenever he is ready, he will be with us. We have a lot of players to give a chance to play for the team.”

Nabi also provided an update on Etiosa Ighodaro, who was injured during training. The Nigerian international striker may have been pushing himself too hard in his eagerness to join the Amakhosi.

Regarding the other new players, Nabi said, “Ighodaro, Velebayi, Baartman, for sure in the right time, we will introduce them to make it easy for them.”

League Standings and Upcoming Match

Following the win in Durban, Chiefs are now joint-top of the Betway Premiership standings with Sekhukhune United, both on 13 points after five matches.

Chiefs and Sekhukhune are set to face off in a thrilling top-of-the-table clash after the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying break. The match will be held at FNB Stadium on 16 September.
