Ncikazi Warns Buccaneers Against Complacency
Orlando Pirates assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi has explained why his side cannot afford to underestimate newly promoted Milford FC ahead of their opening Betway Premiership match of the 2026/27 season.
The Buccaneers will begin the defence of their Betway Premiership title against Milford FC at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday.
Pirates will be aiming to start their title defence on a winning note after being crowned Betway Premiership champions in the 2025/26 campaign. They will also be looking to avoid a repeat of last season’s disappointing opening-day defeat to Sekhukhune United in Soweto.
Standing in their way is a Milford side that secured promotion after winning the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Ncikazi has emphasised the importance of not underestimating the newcomers, insisting Pirates must treat their opponents with the respect they deserve.
“Preparation has gone well,” said Ncikazi.
“But we have to apply ourselves. The biggest opponent for us is complacency. We cannot take our opponent lightly. They are a very good team and champions of their league. They have our respect because, at this stage, no team has any points.
“Our job is to apply what we have prepared, respect the opponent and fight for the three points.”
