New Boxing SA Board Appointed To Revitalize The Sport

South Africa’s Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Zizi Kodwa, has appointed a new board for Boxing South Africa (BSA) in line with the Boxing Act 11 of 2001.

The newly appointed board members will serve a three-year term starting 14 May 2024, and ending 14 May 2027. Their selection concludes a seven-week process that involved stakeholder consultations and public submissions.

The new board’s primary mandate is to revitalize boxing in South Africa and restore the sport to its former glory. Minister Kodwa emphasized the need for a comprehensive “renewal and recovery strategy” alongside strong corporate governance and ethical leadership within BSA.

The New Board Members

The appointed members of the BSA board are:

  • Mr. Sifiso Shongwe (Chairperson)
  • Dr. Koketso Tsebe
  • Ms. Romy Titus
  • Ms. Nandi Mheshe
  • Mr. Sakhiwe Sodo
  • Dr. Luvuyo Precious Bayeni
  • Mr. Luxolo September

The Minister expressed his confidence in the new board and wished them success in their endeavors. He also acknowledged and thanked Mr. Mandla Ntlanganiso for his role as the outgoing Accounting Authority at BSA.

Minister Kodwa urged all stakeholders in South African boxing to put aside past conflicts and work together. “The time has come for everyone involved – leaders, managers, trainers, and boxers – to return to the arenas and focus on uplifting the sport,” he stated.
