Tlolane Faces Uncertain Future At Arrows

Golden Arrows midfielder Teboho Tlolane’s future with the club is uncertain due to limited playing time.

Tlolane joined Abafana Bes’Thende at the beginning of the season after leaving Orlando Pirates in the previous term. He was previously on loan at Maritzburg United from Pirates, which unfortunately suffered relegation at the end of last season.

Seeking more opportunities, Tlolane signed with Arrows. However, his playing time has dwindled since coach Steve Komphela’s reappointment in March 2024.

Tlolane’s last start was against Polokwane City in Komphela’s first game back. He was included in the squad for the 3-0 loss to Stellenbosch but hasn’t featured in the last two matches.

The 29-year-old, nicknamed “Messi,” joined Pirates in the 2019/20 season from Chippa United alongside Siphesihle Ndlovu, Fortune Makaringe, Tshegofatso Mabasa, Bongani Sam, Kabelo Dlamini, Gabadinho Mhango, and Austin Mowowo. Of those players, only Makaringe and Mabasa remain at Pirates.

Struggling for game time at Pirates, Tlolane was loaned out to Maritzburg United in the second half of his first season with the Buccaneers, having only played nine minutes in the first round. Loan spells at Maritzburg United followed in the subsequent seasons (2020/21 and 2021/22) before a brief return to Pirates that yielded minimal playing time.

Following his participation in the COSAFA Cup in Durban in July last year where he claimed a bronze medal, Pirates released Tlolane, who was promptly signed by Arrows.
