“No Pressure”: Makgopa Reveals Pirates’ Secret Weapon To Toppling Sundowns
Orlando Pirates attacker Evidence Makgopa has stressed the importance of staying calm and taking things one game at a time as the Buccaneers head into their final two matches of the Betway Premiership season.
Pirates have been handed a major opportunity to challenge for their first league title in more than a decade, having last lifted the trophy during the 2011/12 campaign. Their hopes were boosted after defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns suffered a 3-2 defeat to TS Galaxy on Tuesday evening.
The result has opened the door for Pirates to potentially leapfrog Sundowns at the top of the standings if they win their remaining games.
The Soweto giants are currently second on the table with 65 points from 28 matches and still have two games in hand.
Pirates will next face Durban City FC at Orlando Stadium on Saturday in what is expected to be a sold-out encounter.
The Bafana Bafana international emphasised the importance of securing maximum points from their remaining matches as they continue their pursuit of the league title.
“I feel happy. What I liked was that people came to watch and support us, which is something we need,” said Makgopa after their 3-0 victory over Magesi FC on Saturday.
“Because we are now chasing the title, which is something people have always wanted. We must not put ourselves under pressure now. What we have to do is take one game at a time. We need to collect maximum points in each and every game, and then move on.”
