“Not Dependent On One Player”: Ben Youssef Hails Amakhosi Spirit After Magesi Demolition

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef was all smiles after his side cruised past bottom-placed Magesi at Peter Mokaba Stadium in the Betway Premiership match on Wednesday.

Amakhosi secured their fifth consecutive league win with a dominant 4–1 victory in Polokwane, strengthening their hold on third place — a position that guarantees participation in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

Chiefs took control early, with goals from Flavio Da Silva and Wandile Duba in the first half. Mdu Shabalala and Khanyisa Mayo added further gloss in the second half, completing the rout against a struggling Magesi side desperate for points.

“I’m very proud of the mentality and spirit we showed on the pitch,” said Ben Youssef.

“I’m also proud of the players who came off the bench after returning from injury — they gave us exactly what we asked of them.

“Today [Wednesday], Reeve Frosler came back and provided two assists, and Mayo scored his second league goal since returning. That’s very good for a striker’s confidence.

“As I’ve said from the beginning, we have a big squad. We are not a team that depends on one or two players — everyone is ready to fight and help the team.”

The victory moved Chiefs to 45 points after 23 matches, leaving them 10 points behind second-placed Orlando Pirates, albeit with a game in hand.

They will remain in Polokwane for their next fixture, where they host Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday (17:30).
