‘Not Everyone Is Mofokeng’: Sibisi Sends Clear Message To Pirates Fans Over New Youngsters
Orlando Pirates captain Nkosinathi Sibisi has called on the club’s supporters to be patient with the young players breaking into the first team this season, urging fans not to compare them to Relebohile Mofokeng, Mohau Nkota and Mbekezeli Mbokazi.
Two youngsters made their senior debuts as Pirates opened their Betway Premiership campaign with a 2-0 victory over Milford on Saturday.
Simphiwe Masilela and Kabelo Kgositsile were handed their first-team opportunities as the Buccaneers begin a new era following the departures of Mofokeng, Mbokazi and Nkota, who have all moved abroad to continue their careers.
Sibisi urged Pirates supporters to remain patient, noting that the season is still long and that the pressure of competing for trophies can be challenging for young players.
“I think it builds excitement for everyone. It builds excitement for our supporters to say we have new players coming in,” said Sibisi.
“But it’s still touch and go. It’s going to be a long season and, as I have said, I think we need to be patient with some of the boys because there is huge potential.
“We don’t need to rush them because I don’t think everyone is your Relebohile, your Mbokazi or your Mohau. So, I am pleading with our supporters to please be patient with these boys.
“There is a lot to come this season.
“I know there is pressure to win trophies and everything, but having said that, let’s be patient with some of the boys, and I am sure they will deliver by the end of the season,” added Sibisi.
Meanwhile, Pirates will begin their MTN8 campaign against Durban City at Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday as the defending champions.
Sibisi said everyone in the squad is prepared for the clash but expects it to be a difficult fixture.
“As you have said, it’s straight back to it after the World Cup,” Sibisi stated.
“Tough pre-season and tough four weeks for us. Difficult conditions against very good opponents. I think the boys prepared themselves very well for the upcoming season.
“What better way to start a season than with three points at home?”
