“Not Here To Make Up The Numbers” — Kadodia Ready To Unleash Millions For Squad Overhaul

Durban City chairman Farook Kadodia has confirmed that the club will attack the upcoming off-season transfer market aggressively to ensure they do not merely “make up the numbers” in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

It remains a fairytale rise for the franchise. After rebranding from Maritzburg United following their promotion at the end of last season, the coastal outfit booked their historic ticket to continental football by capturing the Nedbank Cup earlier this month.

While these massive milestones fell outside Durban City’s initial objectives, they have proved that nothing is impossible in football.

City turned dreams into reality on 2 May at the Peter Mokaba Stadium, staging a brilliant comeback to edge TS Galaxy 2–1 in the Nedbank Cup final.

Continental football demands squad depth. Durban City must navigate a grueling multi-front campaign next season encompassing the Betway Premiership, the MTN8 (pending a top-eight finish), the Carling Knockout Cup, their Nedbank Cup defense, and intensive CAF travel requirements.

Should the club navigate the two preliminary rounds to reach the Confederation Cup group stages, the heavy traveling schedule will test their baseline stamina. Consequently, building a robust, deep squad is paramount.

Durban City currently occupies the final top-eight spot, sitting eighth on the log with 39 points from 29 matches.

They require just a single point from Saturday’s administrative derby against AmaZulu at Chatsworth Stadium to guarantee MTN8 football.

Immediately following the final whistle, Kadodia plans to hold a crucial summit with the club’s technical hierarchy. This showdown meeting will also determine the permanent future of caretaker coach Pitso Dladla.

“We will go back to the drawing board immediately after the last game against AmaZulu,” Kadodia told Sportswire.

“We will assess what is necessary, especially with balancing the Confederation Cup and the league campaign.

“It will not be an easy task next season.

“We will need to go into the market and bring in quality players.”

Durban City will embark on their maiden African adventure alongside seasoned continental heavyweights Kaizer Chiefs, who have already secured a third-place finish this season.
