Nwabali Expresses Tough Moments In Losing Both Parents

Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has admitted to experiencing a difficult period following the tragic loss of his mother this month.
This comes after the heartbreaking loss of his father in November last year.
“I’m not in a stable state of mind right now,” Nwabali told Sportswire.
“But as a footballer, I must find ways to focus on the game, enjoy the moment, and overcome this pain.
“I would be lying if I said I’m completely okay. It’s incredibly difficult to be without my family. However, life goes on, and I must move forward for my fans.”
Nwabali, who helped Chippa United beat in the Nedbank Cup round of 32 this past weekend, also discussed the appointment of new Nigeria coach Eric Chelle. He expressed confidence in the support he will receive from the new coaching staff.
Chelle gained recognition for guiding Mali to the quarterfinals of the 2023 AFCON, where they were eliminated by eventual champions Ivory Coast.
On Monday, Chelle was in the stands in Morocco when the Super Eagles learnt the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations draw. Nigeria was drawn with Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania in Group C.
Nigeria will be looking to do one better than last year’s AFCON where they lost 2-1 to Ivory Coast in the final, the tournament saw Nwabali gain prominence for the most populous country in Africa.
“I haven’t spoken to him,” said Nwabali.
“As big country like Nigeria, I believe he has a lot to improve in the team. I haven’t spoken to him like I said, but we will play for anyone who is the coach of the country.
“We will give him hundred support and help the team.”
Chelle’s first game in charge of Nigeria will be against Rwanda and Zimbabwe in March when the 2026 FIFA World Cup resumed away. The Nigeria Football Association has tasked Chelle to quality the Super Eagles to the FIFA World Cup finals in 2026.
