“We Lacked Lucidity”: Da Cruz
Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz has reflected on their 1-0 MTN8 defeat to Golden Arrows, admitting that there are areas the team needs to improve as the season progresses.
The defeat marked Da Cruz’s first official loss since taking charge of the Soweto giants and saw Chiefs miss out on the first piece of silverware of the season.
It was Amakhosi’s return to the MTN8 quarter-final after being absent from the competition for some time, but their campaign ended prematurely after they were eliminated in their opening match.
Da Cruz identified decision-making as one of the key areas his players need to improve, particularly in the final third.
“On the three or four big chances we had in the first half, we lacked lucidity inside the box,” said Da Cruz.
“Also, we were running after the score; we precipitated in our decision-making. So, we need to be calm, and it seems that we need to improve step by step.”
Despite the defeat, Da Cruz expressed his satisfaction with the mindset shown by his team.
“We know that there are different physical statures in the squad. We work with that to find a good balance in the next few days and weeks. The most important thing is the team’s mindset. I am happy about the team’s mindset and the players coming back step by step,” Da Cruz added.
Chiefs will now shift their focus to their Betway Premiership clash against Sekhukhune United at FNB Stadium on Wednesday.
