Official: Dikgacoi Rejoins Arrows

Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi has officially joined Golden Arrows as part of their coaching staff.

Sportswire was informed a few weeks ago that Dikgacoi has already been involved in training with the club, with an official announcement imminent.

This move comes after Dikgacoi recently resigned as the co-head coach of Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League side Phezulu FC, just days after he was appointed.

“An OG returns to Abafana Bes’thende, back to where his playing career started. KG will share his experience and knowledge of the beautiful game alongside Coach Mabhudi and Coach Musa in the upcoming season. Welcome back Kagisho Dikgacoi,” said the club in a statement.

Dikgacoi will be on the bench in Arrows’ first game of the 2024/25 season against Stellenbosch FC at Athlone Stadium on Wednesday (19:30).

The 39-year-old is returning to the club where he made his top-flight debut in 2005, having joined from Bloemfontein Young Tigers. He left Arrows in 2009 to pursue a career in England, playing for clubs such as Fulham, Crystal Palace, and Cardiff City.

A highlight of Dikgacoi’s career was reaching the Europa League final with Roy Hodgson’s Fulham side in 2010. He also played a crucial role in Bafana Bafana’s semi final success at the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, held in South Africa.

Dikgacoi will forever be remembered for his assist to Siphiwe Tshabalala in the opening goal against Mexico during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Although South Africa ultimately failed to progress to the knockout stages, Dikgacoi’s contribution to that historic moment will not be forgotten.
