Official: Sundowns Appoint Folz
Mamelodi Sundowns has confirmed the appointment of former AmaZulu coach Romain Folz as an assistant coach.
The move has sparked mixed reactions from fans given Folz’s inconsistent coaching record, particularly in comparison to the high expectations at Sundowns.
The club released a statement confirming the appointment: “Romain Folz has been appointed as the assistant coach in the first team, joining Manqoba Mngqithi, Steve Komphela, Wendell Robinson, and Kennedy Mweene in the Technical Department.
“Folz joins the 2023/24 PSL Champions from FIFA’s High-Performance Department. He holds a UEFA Pro License and has previous coaching experience in South Africa, Guinea, Botswana, and Ghana. The Sundowns players and technical team have welcomed Folz to the pre-season camp in Austria.”
Folz’s previous PSL experience includes short-lived stints at Marumo Gallants, where he failed to win a match in six games, and AmaZulu, where he managed four wins in 19 matches.
