Ofori Shows Sympathy For Struggling Mothwa

New AmaZulu goalkeeper Richard Ofori expresses empathy for Veli Mothwa, who has faced challenges both at the club and international level, adding that he is not here because Mothwa made mistakes.

Mothwa was omitted from the Bafana Bafana squad following a series of errors, including a costly mistake in a 2-2 draw against Uganda in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers last month. His struggles continued at AmaZulu, where he made a high-profile blunder in a loss to Polokwane City.

Ofori, who has also experienced his share of mistakes at Orlando Pirates who left him go at the end of last season, understands the challenges Mothwa is facing.

“The most important thing is to improve as a team, most of the time I don’t think about myself,” said Ofori on Wednesday.

“We need to think about other players as well because they are human and we know that we have difficult times in a game, even in life we have difficult times.

“So, it’s like I’m here because Veli and other goalkeepers are not doing well. We have difficult times, and we are here to improve and to work as one family, and that is the most important thing.

“I’m not here to think about someone’s mistake, no, we need to help each other to grow. I’m here to grow as well to help each other to grow.”

Ofori is expected to be in goals for AmaZulu’s Carling Knockout round of 16 match against Stellenbosch FC at King Zwelithini Stadium on Frida, looking for their first win of the 2024/25 season.
