Opentickets Platform Back Online After Initial Crash Ahead Of Pirates vs Sundowns
Orlando Pirates have confirmed that the Opentickets sales platform is fully operational following widespread server outages during Friday morning’s ticket release for the MTN8 final against Mamelodi Sundowns.
Tickets officially opened at 10:00 AM on Friday, but an immediate surge in online traffic caused server errors and blocked checkout attempts for thousands of supporters attempting to secure seats at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Pirates, who enter the 10 October final as the designated home team, confirmed via their official X channel that technical issues had been resolved.
“The system is back,” the club announced, advising supporters to re-enter the digital queue.
The Buccaneers are aiming to extend an extraordinary domestic cup legacy by winning the MTN8 trophy for a fifth consecutive year and a sixth time in seven seasons.
The high demand reflects the stature of the fixture, as South Africa’s two dominant clubs prepare to battle for the season’s first silver silverware in Durban.
The morning’s digital bottleneck mirrored technical disruptions seen during the 2024/25 Nedbank Cup final between Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs at the same venue, where system overloads drew widespread public scrutiny.
