Ouaddou: “We Are A Point Machine”

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has described his side as “points-collecting machines” as they went within a point to log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns following their win over Marumo Gallants on Sunday.

Pirates have amassed 19 points from seven matches and retain a critical game in hand.

The defending champions took full advantage after Sundowns recently dropped points in a 1-1 draw against Chippa United.

Pirates will hope to continue their push for the top of the table when the Betway Premiership resumes following the FIFA international break.

“I think my boys really did well,” said Ouaddou.

“I have to give them credit since June 24 for how we have played football. We had some difficult moments at the beginning, but at least we scored a lot of goals. We didn’t concede too much. I think for now, if I have to summarise this first cycle, it’s just well done. Well done. Very positive in terms of strength, commitment, organisation and discipline. It’s very difficult to play against Pirates.

“I have to stay very humble with our team, but we can say that we have become a points-collecting machine. Other teams used to be the points machines, but this season, I think we are playing our role as the champions, and we want to stay there. We own it. We don’t want to chase; we want to be chased.

“That’s the mentality that I want to give to the boys: to become a points-collecting machine, to be efficient, to play fantastic football with speed and intensity, with no room for improvisation, no room for funny things. That’s the image that I want to give to my team.”

Following the FIFA international break, Pirates clash with Sundowns in the MTN8 final on 10 October.
