Phili Targets Silverware Following High-Profile Chiefs Move
Kaizer Chiefs new signing Langelihle Phili insists he joined the club with one clear objective: restoring Amakhosi to trophy-winning ways.
Chiefs acquired Phili from Stellenbosch FC in a high-profile swap deal that saw Ashley du Preez and Given Msimango move in the opposite direction to the Western Cape outfit.
The Glamour Boys also paid an additional cash fee to secure the AmaZulu youth academy product as new head coach Fernando da Cruz continues rebuilding the squad.
The articulate young attacker delivered a message of gratitude and ambition to the club’s massive fanbase.
“Thank you for choosing me,” Phili said.
“I am finally here and would love nothing more than to win trophies and make great memories with you.”
Chiefs endured another trophy-less campaign last season, though they managed a top-eight finish in the Betway Premiership for the first time in two years.
Beyond the career milestone of joining one of Africa’s premier sporting institutions, signing for Amakhosi carries deep emotional significance for Phili and his family.
“The first thing that came to mind was my grandma, who has sadly passed away,” Phili shared.
“She supported Kaizer Chiefs and I always used to watch them with her when I was young. Everyone at home supports Amakhosi, so I thought it would be a good move for me to join the team I grew up supporting and being here feels like my dream has really come true.
“I can’t wait to meet everybody and start training with the rest of the team and the coaching staff.”
Chiefs face a demanding 2026/27 campaign across five competitions, including the CAF Confederation Cup.
Amakhosi opened their season with a convincing 3-1 victory over Kruger United at Mbombela Stadium this past weekend and turn their focus to Sunday’s MTN8 quarterfinal clash against Golden Arrows at FNB Stadium.
